Award categories

Start-up Business of the Year Award

Sponsored by the Business and IP Centre London

Open to entrepreneurs who’ve started a business since the beginning of 2024.

The business can be product or service-led and across any industry.

Judges will consider the journey undertaken by the entrepreneur from concept to reality, the barriers that were overcome, the determination and passion behind the business, and the results.

The Coach of the Year Award

This award recognises a coach who is transforming lives and building a thriving, purpose-driven business.

They combine expertise and empathy with strategy and structure, creating real results for their clients and a sustainable business model for themselves.

Judges will be looking for evidence of transformation, business growth, a clear coaching approach, and wider influence through thought leadership, content, or community engagement.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Open to entrepreneurs aged 30 and under, regardless of their business discipline.

Judges will evaluate the business model, the product or service and the business’s aspirations.

Innovation, originality and the potential for the business to scale will also be key factors in the judging process.

Creative Business of the Year Award

Recognising creative businesses owned by a woman of colour operating in the creative sector, including PR, design, TV, music, advertising or marketing.

The business must have been in operation for at least 18 months.

Entrants must showcase a thoughtful approach to financial achievement and demonstrate plans for future business success. Innovation and originality in their field will also be key considerations for the judges.

Business of the Year Award

Open to any business founded or operated by a woman of colour that has been trading for at least four years.

The business must provide access to at least one year’s set of accounts and have an annual turnover not exceeding £3 million.

Judges will seek evidence of a well-managed business, a consistent increase in turnover and a clear brand identity. Innovation and sustainability in business practices will also be key factors in the evaluation process.

Additionally, the ability to adapt and thrive in changing market conditions will be a significant consideration.

The Social Impact Award

Celebrating Black women and women of colour whose ventures, programmes or campaigns deliver measurable social or environmental change.

Judges will look for initiatives that demonstrate measurable positive change and promote inclusivity and equity.

Outstanding Woman in Professional Services Award

Honouring women from across the professional services spectrum, including bankers, accountants, doctors, lawyers and architects.

This award will be presented to a woman of colour who has demonstrated leadership, innovative thinking or community service within this sector.

The judging panel will seek a candidate with a proven track record of excellence in their field, who actively supports and champions other women in the industry.

Outstanding Woman in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Award

Open to women of colour working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

We’re seeking women with clear career goals who have excelled through hard work and achieved notable success.

Judges will also look for individuals who have made significant contributions to their STEM fields and serve as inspiration to others.

The Leadership Award

Highlighting women of colour who hold leadership roles within their workplaces or community.

Nominees should have experience leading a team, department or initiative where they make autonomous decisions and bear significant responsibility.

Judges will look for examples of strong leadership and a personable approach to decision-making. They’ll consider feedback from colleagues about the nominee’s inspiration, leadership style and outcomes.

Outstanding Woman in the Public Sector Award

 

Open to women of colour working in the public sector. Nominations are welcome from individuals in all public sector fields, including housing, healthcare, local authorities and education.

Judges will seek women with well-defined career paths who have achieved significant success in their career to date.

Innovative approaches to solving challenges within the sector will also be a factor in the evaluation process.

Sustainability Champion of the Year Award

Recognising women of colour who have implemented a sustainability project or initiative, or who have made a transformational impact by championing sustainable practices in their industry.

Their efforts should have positively impacted their peers, business or the wider community.

Nominations must provide evidence of the impact and demonstrate excellence in engaging and inspiring others.

The Podcast of the Year Award

Celebrating the most inspiring, engaging, and impactful podcasts created by Black women and women of colour in the UK.  This category recognises originality, quality content, community connection, and the power of amplifying underrepresented voices through podcasting.

Your podcast can focus on any theme. From business, leadership, lifestyle, culture, wellbeing, creativity and social justice,

  • The podcast must be created, hosted, or co-hosted by a Black woman or a woman of colour based in the UK

  • The podcast must have released at least 6 episodes between 1 June 2024 and 30 May 2025

  • The podcast can be independent or produced under a media organisation

The Man of the Year 

This award celebrates men who are not just talking about change, they’re helping to make it happen.

We’re looking for men who are building fairer, more inclusive spaces where Black women and women of colour can thrive. That could be in business, tech, the arts, finance, education, or community work.

They might be mentoring women, championing diverse leadership, creating opportunities, or using their voice and platform to support real progress.

Who can be nominated?
Men based in the UK who:

  • Are doing great work in their job, business, or creative field

  • Are actively supporting the success of Black women and women of colour

  • Are using their power, influence, or platform to open doors for others
